The Desert Fairies of Oylara

The massive ship came out of the bright blue sky and landed with a deafening roar that echoed throughout the valley. Hot air from the exhaust of its powerful engine kicked up an enormous cloud of dust and sand. Before the dirty cloud had a chance to settle back to the surface, a hatchway at the rear of the ship opened and a platform extended to the ground. The sound of metallic footsteps began as humanlike machines started to exit the ship. Several spread out around the ship to guard it while others set up a powerful digging machine to one side. A short time later the digging machine was assembled and it began to churn up the earth as it made its way into the ground.
Off to one side, hidden behind a giant cactus, was a special creature that called this desert home. She had been out patrolling this part of the desert and had been taking a break from the blistering heat and absorbing some water from the cactus when the alien ship had landed. She watched in horror as the digging machine dug up the earth and the desert plants as it slowly went deeper into the ground. It was especially heartbreaking to watch as one of the giant cactus, which was beloved by the creature and her kind, was mangled and destroyed in the spinning blades of the digging machine. Her horror though quickly turned to anger and she thought about attacking these alien machines. But, she realized, there were too many of them for her to fight alone. So, she decided that she needed to get word back to her queen as soon as possible about this new threat to their land. As she turned to leave she heard the largest of the machines make a call, “Sir, the scans were correct. We have found it.”
