After the easy cascade of novel subjects, comes the calm of reflection, where ideas and words seem somehow distant, and vague. Thoughts, striving to become sharper. Second thoughts arising.
Delayed notions, perhaps, deeper reflections, than what proceeded, in bursts of unconsidered stanzas. Perhaps, such reflections reveal sharper images than their antecedents.
Such is the nature of mind, the maker of all verse and prose.
Mind, seeking to amplify, and illuminate what seems left unsaid.
Second thoughts, striving for truer reflections.”
These were my thoughts, as I started writing verse again, after a pause of six years. Writing again in hopes of finding deeper insights, hence, the title, “Second Thoughts.”
“Second Thoughts” is my third published collection of poems. Unlike my other books, many poems are presented as ideas and thoughts arrived over the course of time. In this sense, the presentation is hopefully more spontaneous and organic in structure.
The second section Songs on the Winds is more topical reflecting my encounters with the winds that seemed to shape my life.
I invite the reader to sample seeking what may appeal to them, rather than a sequential reading.
As in my other books of verse, I hope some enjoyment and insight comes to those who scan these pages.
The Ashen Song
How does it sound?
Not with notes, rather with the rustling hum of dusty silence.
A stream of flowing memories, ebbing away, drifting off onto the winds of hazy forgetfulness never revisited again
Aging newsprint, yellowed and blackened, falling into formless flecks of unreadable words
Words, becoming nothing more than meaningless glyphs.
Sounds that will never pass lips, nor gladden the ears, with the music of the spoken words.
Tears drying, no more shed anew.
Eyes, growing ever dimmer, soon to become sightless ruins.
Silence, unbroken comes to rule the days, no longer marked, nor counted.
Days, not even graced with names, or awaited events.
Thus, it ends in silence lasting and deep.
Silence, no longer profound, for none remains to marvel at its seamless perfection.
Ashen songs lost in the silence.
Notes faded into the void, never to sound anew.
Ashen songs, of men gone and lost.
Voices, that sing no more.

About the Book
There are reflections on life; then, there are truer reflections. It took a six-year hiatus for poet F.M. Bonevento to return to the written word, but he does so now with passion, wit, and a better understanding of things he thought he once knew. About the Author
F.M. Bonevento is a former senior software engineer and functional manager. He is the co-inventor of five computer hardware patents and is an expert in software engineering and project management. He is the author of Signs and Seasons of Love and Musings. He and his wife, Mary Ann, reside in Boca Raton, Florida.
