I do love to wander,
To prowl all alone,
But often I long for
The warmth of a home.
My fur is all matted;
It hurts when I stretch.
The humans who see me
Say, "Poor little wretch."
In winter I'm hungry;
I'm out in the cold.
This life is so brutal
I may not grow old.
Then one day I notice
Upon a front stoop,
A bowl of fresh water,
A plate heaped with food.
My stomach's demanding
I climb up to eat,
Though I feel that someone
Is spying on me.

About the Author
Judith Williams worked as a teacher, vocational counselor and graphic artist before retiring in Corporate Communications. Having completed two novels in her Heron Lake Mystery series, Judith now enters the field of children’s literature with Matt’s Forever Home. A native Chicagoan, Judith lives in a suburb with her cat, Jabber.
