About the Book

All projects regardless of their size require planning, communication, and conflict management. This book will help seasoned or new project team members to understand the fundamentals of project management. These fundamentals will be presented in a story about siblings building a fence as an anniversary gift for their parents.

The story follows their progress from project conception to project completion. Similar to all projects, they will utilize essential project management tools, create a plan, work through disagreements, react and adapt to the unexpected, and creatively solve problems. How they plan for and work through these challenges will determine whether they build the fence on time, on budget, and stay on good terms with each other.

Whatever your project, their story is an easy way to make sense of project management, its tools, dos and don’ts, and how to sustain the engagement of project team members.

About the Author

Richard Champney, PMP, earned an engineering degree from the University of Vermont. He has extensive experience as an engineering and program manager in commercial, industrial, and military business environments. He has managed and led projects ranging from venture capital funded startups to multimillion-dollar projects. He has been a university and corporate guest lecturer on project and engineering management.

Robert W. Kubacki, J.D., M.P.A., earned a juris doctor, master in public administration, and bachelor of arts degree. His project management experience began with designing the plans to meet a nonprofit’s grant deliverables and has evolved into managing numerous types of projects. He has taught courses in management, conflict resolution, and communication studies at universities in Boston and Worcester, Massachusetts, and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
