SOME MORE COMMENTS FROM THE AUTHOR... (WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT, LOL)
Ok, now before we start going through the steps, I just want to touch on the "science" of addiction. Don't worry, I’m not going to bore you. I had to dumb it down for myself and I said to self "I’m going to K.I.S.S" it (keep it simple stupid) for myself so I could better understand and not lose my attention.
So, let's start by saying your addiction is NOT a disease! This is MY choice! There are so many articles, professionals and self-help groups that will debate this issue until we are blue in the face. But, think about it. A disease is something you get. You get Cancer. You get a brain tumor. You don’t ever say, I'm going to choose to have cancer today, do you? No, you don’t choose that. But, you do choose to be an addict today. Being an addict is your choice. I’m saying that there is a behavior problem that leads to addictions.
Other support groups teach that addiction is a disease. Let’s think about this for a minute. On one hand, they preach that it’s a disease. And on the other hand they tell the loved ones to stop helping them and show “tough love” until the addict hits rock bottom. This never made sense to me. How I see it, is if my loved one had a disease I would never close the door on them. There would be no such thing as hitting rock bottom. So, how can this be a disease? You don’t wait for the cancer patient (who has a disease) to hit rock bottom before you help them. If you research the difference of a brain of an addict and a non-addict, you will see there is no scientific difference to determine it’s a disease.
Now, what you are doing by taking drugs and drinking alcohol is changing the chemical balance of your brain. Often adding prescription medication, anti-anxiety and anti-depressants, are actually causing you more harm, due to the imbalance of serotonin and neuroephrams. Studies have shown when we do or think anything enough, the brain will change. Different areas of the brain will be more or less active depending how much you use them, this will then become the norm of your brain. But, your brain will change again depending on what you think and do.
So, to break that down in my terms, when you have unhealthy thinking and live an unhealthy lifestyle, and you are surrounded by unhealthy people and living in a bad environment, that is the mind set your brain will follow. But, once you start thinking healthy, acting healthy, living healthy, then you will HAVE a healthy mind. Your brain will do all the hard work for you. All you have to do is feed it. Positive mind, positive life. You know the saying mind over matter.

THE NEW 12 STEPS
ACCORDING TO GERI
1. Stop lying to myself and others. Admit I am choosing to allow my addiction to destroy lives, including my own.
2. I realize that I am an ass and I needed to find a power greater than myself.
3. Get down on my knees and cry out to GOD, I am helpless without you.
4. Look in the mirror and hate what I see looking back at me. (Not to worry #10's got this)
5. Stop making excuses and blaming others for the horrible things I've done and decided to change.
6. I stood up tall and told GOD, I'm ready to go to war! I must fight to be right, please show me how!
7. Begged GOD for forgiveness and asked him to remove my crap!
8. Write down every innocent victim that I hurt who was affected by my addiction with intent to apologize.
9. Got in touch with these victims and honestly and humbly took ownership and asked for forgiveness.
10. I will look in the mirror every day and take full responsibility for all of my actions. That face looking back, may soon start to like me.
11. I will continue to talk to GOD every day asking for encouragement, guidance and forgiveness.
12. I realize I have to wake the "F" up and practice these principals on a daily basis, while encouraging other addicts to do the same. I am worth it baby!
13. If you feel like blowing your brains out by now, put the damn gun down!! I promise, you won't regret it!!!
CHAPTER 1
HONESTY
Let's be Honest
Once and for all
Stand on the truth
And you won’t fall
I'm not an addict
This I know
Because my God
He tells me so
You see this world
Will hold you down
It lies and says
You can’t be found
But God says Listen
That’s all such bull
Your cup’s not empty
Your cup is full
The devil laughs
Right in your face
Makes you think
You’re such a waste
It's up to you
To fight your fight
To let him know
He’s wrong, not right!
You weren’t born
To be this way
Screw the world
With what they say
I'm not an addict
This too shall pass
I'm not an addict
I'm just an ass!!!!
