About the Book

Takoda is a Native American girl who loves traveling to the great Klicktat River to fish for the salmon that feeds her tribe. As she helps set up camp and excitedly awaits the sun to rise so she can begin her next adventure, Takoda has no idea that she will soon receive a wonderful gift.

The next day as Takota walks to the river carrying a woven basket, a bald eagle flies overhead. After her grandfather gives thanks to the Great Spirit, Takota fills her basket with salmon. Happy to be continuing the traditions of her ancestors, Takota soon heads back to camp. But when she finds an unexpected gift along the way, Takota learns to believe in the power of prayer, of following her heart, and in the sacredness of everything on Earth.

Denise DeSousa has created an engaging and informative children’s book that illuminates the power of the Earth, our animal allies, and especially the power of gratitude.
