About the Book

When bakers from all over the world teach their students how to make cookies, they try to create the most perfect cookies. They must all look the same—perfectly round, with no room for differences.
When the cookies are done, the bakers inspect every cookie, and they set aside all the ones that don’t fit the perfect cookie mold: they’re too dark, too fat, too small, too light, too bumpy, or too lumpy. But what happens when one brave baking teacher chooses to taste the imperfect cookies? All of the bakers soon learn that it’s what’s inside that counts, no matter how different they look on the outside.
In this tale of baking students learning about cookies, children learn a valuable lesson about acceptance and tolerance for all, regardless of differences.

About the Author

Rena Laniado is a clinical social worker and psychotherapist with thirty years of experience working with families and children. Many of her clients are students with special needs. She is a parent of four grown children and eleven grandchildren. The idea for this book came from an incident involving one of her grandsons; it is the first in a series of children’s books. She currently lives in Brooklyn, New York.
