“Jack o lantern, jack o lantern, you are such a funny sight,
As you sit there in the cow field looking out at the night”
The 7-year-old sang innocently while sitting in the hayloft in the barn.
“You are a sweet child, with the voice of an angel.”
Gregor looked up at his Auntie Jen, and smiled like a glowing cherub. Auntie Jen smiled back; her heavily lined face weary from decades of back breaking farm work. Only she and the boy were left after the rest of the family was murdered by the heinous serial killer know as Green Man. The boy witnessed it all, but it seemingly had little effect on him. Auntie Jen would do her best to raise the boy to manhood.
“Gregor, I must get back to work. But tell me, we are missing another chicken from the coop…have you seen it?”
“No Auntie Jen,” the boy replied dryly. “They are my friends; I would never harm them.”
Auntie Jen looked confused, then shrugged. She reminded the boy that lunchtime was about an hour away, and then departed. The boy calmly climbed from the loft and entered the coop as he had done each day since the murders. Amidst the clamor and squawking, Gregor carefully selected a fine hen from wired confines of the coop. With great pomp and presence, the boy carried the panicked bird to the ‘altar’. He ceremoniously raised the cackling hen overhead, and violently bashed it against the jagged rocks. The small child laughed heartily as the bloodied chicken raced around the barn until finally falling over, limp and lifeless. Upon opening the barn gate, Gregor carried the carefully wrapped hen out to the field, being sure not to trip over the numerous pumpkins which littered the pasture. Taking his little toy shovel from his rear pocket, the child carefully dug a neat grave in the soft soil and gently laid the hen to rest. One of the nearby pumpkins was rolled onto the grave, to be used as yet another burial marker.
“Another of my friends is now safe,” the boy muttered as Auntie Jen rang the cowbell summoning Gregor to lunch.
“You were once a yellow pumpkin, growing on a sturdy vine,
Now you are a jack o lantern, see your candle light shine,”
The boy hummed as he trod to the farmhouse. It was important for the child to finish the song he had started earlier. Yes, from now on, Gregor would always finish everything he started.

About the Book
If there were such a thing as karma, Gregor would say he had it—bad karma. His mental illness has been present practically since birth. During early childhood, Gregor already knows he’s different. As he grows to be an adult, those differences become violently apparent. He is a monster born, not made, and his extremely disturbed mental state is a thing of nightmares.
Told in a series of chilling vignettes, G: The Story of a Madman is a character study of one man’s descent into pure evil. It begins with “Baby G,” a tale of Gregor’s upbringing. A few years later, run into him again in “Friends.” Next, follow Gregor to New York City as he escapes his history to start anew in the Big Apple. Finally, the “Psycho G” series takes readers deepest into the darkness of this antihero.
For author Bill Evans, writing is the priceless ability to show the things we dare not think or say in real life. It is a pure art form that reflects the truth of the human condition, no matter how dark and deviant. The stories in G do not pull any punches as Gregor grows to become the monster in all our minds and openly portrays the horrors we refuse to accept.
