It was a beautiful spring morning in May. The sun was shining and there were white puffy clouds in the blue sky. Booker, a happy, friendly, handsome dog went out at his usual time. While he was roaming around his yard, Booker noticed a very strong and tempting smell. He walked over to check it out. Sniff, sniff. This smells great, thought Booker. I really like it and I think it will smell good on me.
Booker thought the smell was so great he rolled back and forth in it. He had a fun time. After he rolled around on his back he jumped up and shook himself. He felt very proud of how he smelled. Oh boy, thought Booker. My people will think I smell great. I can’t wait for them to get a whiff of me.
After rolling around on his back he jumped up, shook himself and walked into his house past his dad, Art. Art made an awful face and put his hand over his nose. Booker walked right up to his mom, Renée, with a great big smile on his face.
“Oh, Booker,” said Renée as she was backing away holding her nose. “What have you got on your fur? You smell awful!”
Booker kept walking toward her, tail wagging, not understanding why she was backing away. He thought he smelled great!

About the Book
Booker is a happy, curious dog with pointed ears and a curly tail. One spring day, he finds an interesting smelly spot in the backyard and decides to roll in it in order to share it with his family.
Although Booker thinks he smells great, his family feels a bit differently. His parents, Art and Renée, put him in the garage while they go off to work, promising to take care of the stinky smell later. But wait—is that his dog food in the corner? When Renée comes home at lunch to let Booker go outside, he meets his animal friends Tippy and Tappy the squirrels and Flower the bunny. Even they tell Booker he smells stinky and needs a bath. What a day of mischief and fun from one exciting scent!
In this children’s story, an inquisitive dog discovers a stinky something in his backyard and rolls in it, leading to a day full of trouble for him and his family.
About the Author
Renée Filippucci-Kotz was born in New York and grew up in Kentucky. Renée developed a passion for books and animals as a child. Going to the library with her parents and brother was a favorite pastime. Growing up her family had gold fish, dogs, turtles, a rabbit, and cats. She became interested in writing for children while working with foster children. Renée is a long-time volunteer at her local animal shelter. When not writing, she enjoys reading, gardening and spending time with her husband and pets. Ms. Filippucci-Kotz lives in North Carolina.
