OF FLYING SNAKES
Gosh sakes!
There’s snakes!
Snakes in my bed,
Clear to my head!
Big ones.
Little ones.
Roundy round
And flatsy down.
Every wrinkle
You see a riggle,
Even a hiss.
And all of this
On the top,
Really Pop!
The top bunk,
It’s not junk,
Gosh, sakes!
They’re real snakes!
(With the bedwetting came nightmares of snakes. I was in the top bunk so Dad said the snakes would have to be flying snakes to get me. By the way, the bedwetting followed Ed-episodes. If I told, Ed said he’d go away and I’d have to deal with snakes while weeding. He got reduced rent for doing weeding around Gramp’s property.)

Sing great praises
Praise to God
Praise to your family
Praise to friends and neighbors
Don’t take for granted
Their special talents
To share and make
Your life more fulfilled
Your praises to others

(Appreciate life and its blessings – most LD/ADHD kids hate school – I loved its safe haven so much I kept going to school until I got my PhD thanks to evading Ed.)
SHAME, SHAME ON YOU
Shame, shame
Shame on you
Tongues clucking and wagging
Fingers pointing and shaking
Shame, shame
Shame on you.
You make a mistake on homework
Didn’t cross the street right
Wet your bed again
Gave the wrong answer
Couldn’t hit the ball
Couldn’t ride your two-wheeler
Look so ugly and gawky
Let him touch you
Then touch you again.
Shame, shame
Shame on you
Tongues clucking and wagging
Fingers pointing and shaking
Shame, shame
Shame on you.
(I needed to quit ripping on myself for every little nothing that happened. This was a tip that I had poor self-esteem.)
ALICE OF THE LOOKING-GLASS
For all too many years
Filled with unbelievable fears
I looked and saw
And did the wrong conclusion draw.
For it was his reflection
Given with his false detection,
An ugly image
There too long an age.
The sight has so much lack
From the mirror side black,
Not seen ever with my eyes
But only through his lies.
I peer insecure
At a picture pure
There on the other side,
Is a face I can abide.
The true reflection
Of his so-called affection
Without his evil lies.
There are pretty blue eyes,
Shiny golden hair,
At this beauty I dare stare.
(My husband’s insecurity and need to control caused him to call me ugly, fat, stupid, or whatever came out of his mouth. My poor self-esteem accepted his judgement because I believed it was true. One day I looked in the mirror and saw me as I actually was. It was a step toward change. A path of evolution.)

About the Book
It all started when an innocent little Brownie walked to a neighbor’s house to sell Girl Scout calendars. It seemed like an overdone, slobbery kiss as Micah Mason left, but at age seven, she wasn’t really sure. That moment instigated four years of hiding or being caught and molested, and a chronic state of hypervigilance. As the events led Micah into therapy, a counselor suggested she journal as homework.
In a collection of raw, unfiltered poems penned in a therapy journal over several decades, Micah invites others to witness her heartbreaking journey through childhood trauma and therapy into adulthood as she faced life-altering abuse, witnessed its affects on her life, and eventually learned healthy coping skills and self-awareness. Her poems illustrate the ups and downs of life while healing, trust issues with those who failed her, and the power of her faith as it carried her through the most challenging of times.
My Therapy Journal shares a moving compilation of poems that convey the myriad of emotions that accompanied one woman’s journey through childhood trauma, broken trust issues, and eventual healing.
About the Author
Micah Mason has been a registered nurse for forty-three years and earned a PhD in natural medicine. She enjoys crafting, organic gardening, and learning about essential oils. She is a mother, a lifelong teacher, and healer who currently resides in Elyria, Ohio.
