About the Book

Most people love dogs. When we think of dogs, we usually think of our pets. We might even remember dogs that work on a farm or help people with daily tasks. In other words, there are all kinds of dogs.

Author David Volk’s Fearless Felix and His Heroes is about dogs that have gone to war in service of their country, dogs that provide assistance to people who need help in their daily lives, and dogs that work tirelessly to keep us safe.

Fearless Felix sniffs out danger. He tells about his life as a bomb dog. He also tells stories of dogs throughout history who’s served humans. He shares stories of war dogs beginning in World War I. He also tells the story of service dogs, such as seeing-eye dogs.

About the Author

David Volk was born and raised in Mitchell, South Dakota. He served in the US Army as a combat photographer with the 101st Airborne Division. He has published six books, including Draftee: A High School Teacher Goes to War, which chronicles his time in the army, and My Grandpa’s War, a children’s book about Vietnam. He has won multiple Independent Publisher awards for outstanding regional children’s books. He lives in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
