“There’s my girl! Want to hold hands?” Cameron asked when I got out of Calc, making me glare the first time that morning. “Too soon?”

“There are plenty of girls in this school who want to hold your hand. So why don’t you ask one of them?” I asked, adjusting my books uncomfortably in my hands. Cameron took them from me, holding them with complete ease by his side. Apparently, the cool thing was not having books since he hardly ever carried his own.

“Been there. Done that. I want an East Side girl with a West Side past,” he sang.

I bit my lip trying to hold in my giggle. God, who was I becoming? “You don’t know me. You’re just annoying me into submission,” I said, rejecting him by walking faster. Having Cameron try to keep up with me was the best flirtation device I had, apparently.

“Oh, come on. What do you call this? I brought you coffee. I’m walking you to your classes. I’m making an effort.” He bumped into me on purpose, making me lose my balance slightly.

“You’re kissing my ass. Big difference,” I snorted, shaking out my shoulders.

“Oh whatever,” he groaned, handing over my books. I thought I had made him angry, but we were already to Chem. Walking backward down the hall, he called, “Now, I may be late next hour, but I promise I’ll run fast. I can’t have you walking to History alone!”

“You better,” I whispered to myself, already attached to him in ways I wished I weren’t.
