“Welcome to the 4th annual Mile of Mayhem Competition. I’ll be your host, Josh Haley. This year we have seen a record number of entries, over 100. As a brief history for all those who haven’t watched before, this started six years ago. The local teens found a road out in the country that they hadn’t been on before. One of the kids went down it. To his friends, nothing was happening. For the kid who decided to go first, it felt like his fears came out, as if the road was twisting turning and attacking him. Once you enter the road, there’s no turning back. You must either walk the road or die. We have had one person actually complete the Mile of Mayhem competition. He is now being housed in the state’s mental hospital. You may be asking, why would someone want to do the mile? Well, if you complete it you prove to yourself that you are strong enough…and also you get a cash prize of a million dollars! The first competitor this year is Zach Hurley. Let’s see if he can do it.”
The camera cuts to the road. Alongside the road are bleachers and food carts. The mile road ends at a river. After successfully passing the mile you must float the river until being pulled up from the boat landing. Something new this year: a point of view camera will be attached to all competitors for an inside view of the roads haunted powers.
Zach, the first competitor, is getting prepared. Psychologists say the mile is a mind game and if you can clear all your fears out of your mind, all you will have to face is the roads’ twisted games and the mile long walk.
“Here we go, Zach is walking onto the road. We can watch through the Mile of Mayhem point of view camera. Zach is now on the road. You can tell that he is definitely scared. He is looking around very cautiously and is prepared for what the road will throw at him. Zach is walking a little faster, looking around. Wow! Look at this! The first ever look at what really happens inside the road. The road is beginning to twist! I can’t believe this. Zach is now running towards the end of the road.”
The host, Josh Haley, is shocked that this is actually real. Well, he knew it was real. He just didn’t know it was this real and crazy. The cameras and people outside don’t see the same things as Zach, however. All they see is Zach running. They don’t see the road twisting. Then suddenly the point of view camera on Zach cuts out and Zach is lifted up high then slammed down. Josh see’s this and reports back on TV.
“Well, that was that. Our first contender with the point of view camera just passed. You might notice a lot of bodies on the road. People are determined to finish this contest. Our next contender is a girl for a change. Her name is Brianna. It looks like Brianna is now scared and doesn’t want to do it. We head down to our live on the road correspondent Kane Ian.”
“Yes, thank you, Josh. It does look like our first girl contender of the 4th annual Mile of Mayhem is having second thoughts. The contract says you must make an attempt. Let’s talk to her. Brianna, what are you feeling right now? Everyone is hoping you make it. Your family is even here for support. You can’t quit.”
“I don’t want to do this. This is sick. I am sorry, I don’t want to. I’ll do anything. Seriously anything, please just not this.”
“Well, Brianna, this is a show, a competition. You signed the contract, you have to attempt it. Josh, we will go back to you.”
The camera zooms out. Everyone watching at home on TV isn’t affected by this. This usually happens at least once. Josh picks it up and closes it out.
“Thank you, Kane. Yes, we are sorry but if you sign the contract, you must attempt the Mile of Mayhem. Oh, it looks as if our producers are talking to the frightened Brianna right now. It seems like a good time for a commercial break.”
During the commercials, the producers tell Brianna that she must attempt the road. There’s no way around it.
The commercials are quite interesting. There are usually four of them. The sponsors of Mile of Mayhem are usually the same, with the exception of a few new ones. The first commercial comes on and shows men and women inside a building, wearing masks. The masks are those blank white masks. The commercial shows these men and women getting along and having fun. They are wearing a necklace around their neck and a ring on their right ring finger. The camera zooms in on the ring, which shows an image of a crest. A low voice comes on and says, “The Truth”. Then the commercial cuts out. The second one is a little less scary for some. It is for a new soda called Volcano Debris, which is a crushing quench of orange soda. Volcano Debris hits stores soon. The third commercial is for a cruise that is happening soon. The cruise is going to an island and the rapper/singer Norman Comb Over is going to be performing some of his hits such as New World/We On it/Norman the Paranormal. The last commercial to come on is for the fast food restaurant, The Green God. The Green God is not only for people who are looking to score a quick meal but they can sit down and adore some art. Also, this is a head shop. The head shop is in the back, down the hall. The Green God is looking to nationalize and hit everywhere. You can try the Green God signature burger meal for $4.20. After the commercials Brianna is calm and ready to face the mile long road.
