As the party came to an end, Mr. Puck brought out a long, thin package.
“We have one more special surprise,” said Mr. Puck with a sly grin. Jeffrey’s eyes shimmered with amazement at the gift.
All the children watched with interest as Jeffrey tore off the shiny red paper.
“My very own hockey stick!” exclaimed Jeffrey.
Mr. Puck leaned over and whispered in a serious tone, “It’s not just any hockey stick…it’s a magic hockey stick.”
The children gasped.
Mr. Puck continued, “It’s a Hocus Pocus Hockey Stick, and scores winning
goals.”
The children marveled at the sight of the magical hockey stick, all except for Patrick.
“There’s no such thing as a Hocus Pocus Hockey Stick,” Patrick said sourly,
crossing his arms over his chest.
“Well of course there is,” retorted Mr. Puck, “just wait and see all the winning goals it will score!"
Patrick scowled. Jeffrey and the rest of the children stared in amazement at the marvelous, magic stick.

Jeffrey Puck loves to play hockey. The only problem is that he’s not very good at scoring goals or even at skating. Tomorrow is his seventh birthday, and he will finally be old enough to join the Junior Hockey League at the skating rink. But will he be able to play well enough to stay on the team?
The first practice doesn’t go well for Jeffrey. He slips and falls, and then he misses the puck when he tries to hit it. After practice is his birthday party, and all of his classmates come over. When Jeffrey opens his birthday presents, his father gives him a hockey stick of his own, which his dad says is magical. Will the Hocus Pocus Hockey Stick really help Jeffrey score goals?
This children’s tale tells the story of a boy who learns to believe in himself when he receives a magic hockey stick for his birthday.
