Charlie Blue’s Adventures as an Outside Bird

Chapter One
Charlie Blue was sad. He was a beautiful blue parakeet. He could fly from room to room. The children, Molly and Tommy, loved him. Their mommy and daddy loved him. So why was he sad???
He could look out the windows and see the birds outside. They flew high in the air. They ate on the lawn with their friends. He thought the outside birds had a lot of fun. But he was not allowed to go outside. Oh, that made him sad. He wanted to fly up in the sky.
So he sat in his cage and pouted. He sat next to his water tray and his food. But he did not drink. He did not eat. He just pouted some more. Tommy tried to get him to come out. Charlie Blue would not look at him Molly tried to get Charlie Blue to talk. But Charlie Blue just shut his eyes and kept still.
They called for Mommy and Daddy. "What is wrong with Charlie Blue?" Their parents could not get him to open his eyes or move.
Mommy said she would take him to the vet the next day. Maybe he was sick. "No, I won't go. I won't be here," thought Charlie Blue. Oh my, Charlie Blue planned to fly out of the house that very day.
Chapter Two
Later Mommy went shopping. She had two big grocery bags filled with food. They were heavy and she had to walk slowly through the door.
Charlie Blue could see the red box of his favorite seeds stuffed in next to breakfast cereal. But he was not thinking of food now. He wanted to be outside and soar up in the air. He wanted to be like an outside bird.
So when he saw the door was open, he darted through and make his escape. WOW - HE DID IT!

Chapter Four

When morning came he flew down to the ground to try to find food again. Oh no! A big black cat with green eyes was looking at him. He had seen the horrible things a cat could do when he looked out the windows. But he had forgotten about that.
He was so scared and flew up from the grass as fast as he could.
The cat jumped at him. But he just got away in time. Ouch! Something hurt him. One of his beautiful blue tail feathers was in the front paws of the black cat.
His heart was racing. But at least he was safe. Even the bird bath water was looking good to him now. If only that cat would move away so he could at least drink some water.

Chapter Five
Charlie Blue was crying. Would he ever find his home and family? He was so sad. He decided to fly low and look at all of the houses. But nothing looked familiar as he flew from house to house.
Oh wait! He recognized that car. It was Mommy's little green car. It was stopped. The front windows were open. Mommy was looking out the window. They were hunting for him.

* Charlie Blue learned that sometimes things we want to do so much are not good for us.
*Always remember to listen to the adults who love you and care for you. They want you to be strong and healthy and happy.
* Never forget to ask God to protect you and guide you. He cares about your pets, but He cares about you even more.
