Lenny’s Wagon Ride

Lenny lives in town, but enjoys spending time on grandpa’s farm. Lenny’s grandpa is a farmer who grows hay beans and corn and raises chickens, ducks, goats, cows and horses. Lenny loves to explore the farm. He discovers something new on each visit.
As Lenny pulled up to the farm he had a huge smile on his face, he could see his grandpa waiting for him in the driveway. The second the car stopped, Lenny unbuckled his seatbelt and jumped out of the car to give his grandpa a big hug. “I’ve missed you Lenny”, said grandpa, “and so have the animals”. Lenny replied “I missed you and grandma, and the animals too”.
Lenny’s mom got his bag of clothes out of the car, and handed it to him. “Have fun” she said as she kissed his head.
She got back in the car and drove down the driveway as Lenny and grandpa waved goodbye. Lenny ran inside grandpa’s house to put his bag down, and give grandma a hug, she was busy cooking. Then Lenny and grandpa went to visit the animals.
Grandpa told Lenny “I’ve got a tractor that I need to fix, so if you promise to stay out of trouble, I’ll let you go explore around like you always do”. “I promise, I promise” said Lenny, anxious and excited. Grandpa went to fix the tractor as Lenny figured out what he wanted to explore first.
Lenny looked around, he saw a chicken coop, a garden shed, a big red barn, a machine shed and a few tiny buildings that were hidden by tall weeds growing all around them. With so much to choose from, Lenny started walking over to the garden shed where grandpa keeps all his tools. Lenny found a weird looking tool, it had a long handle and an odd looking cutting blade at the end. Lenny looked at it for a moment and thought, “maybe this could help cut down some of the weeds around the tiny sheds.
So, he walked down the hill, behind the house, to one of the tiny sheds hidden by weeds. He began to swing the tool back and forth, side to side. As Lenny used the tool, the weeds began to fly through the air with every swing. “It’s easy to cut these weeds”, Lenny thought to himself, and before he knew it, in just a few short minutes he had cut all of the weeds away from the door of the shed.

About the Book
Although Lenny lives in town, he loves visiting his grandparents’ farm in Nebraska. He enjoys seeing the animals, but more than anything, he likes to explore the farm.
On this visit, Grandpa needs to fix his tractor, so he tells Lenny to go and look around and to stay out of trouble. First Lenny finds a funny-looking tool and cuts all the weeds away from the door of one of the sheds. Next, he looks inside the shed, where he finds something special—a red wagon! Finally, Lenny gets a wonderful, crazy idea, one that will send Grandpa’s chicken scurrying and that will teach him a valuable lesson about making good choices.
In this children’s story, a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm makes a discovery in a forgotten shed and then finds himself going for a very wild ride.
