About the Book

Rock hyraxes are very common in East Africa. Their habitat tends to be rocky areas where they can hide from predators rather than in a mogogos, which many families still use for cooking meals. However, when Chiumbo discovers a pregnant rock hyrax in his family’s mogogos he responds by becoming a caregiver and growing up substantially in the process.

About the Author

Douglas Cochran is a Canadian writer. He is a semi-retired lawyer currently working as an adjudicator. He is the father of three children, living in Canada. Hyrax in the Mogogos evolved from his whimsical exploration, as a word he thought he created in a nonsense poem, mogogos, turned out to be a vital domestic tool in rural Kenya. Douglas was blessed to discover Susan Alex Percival, an illustrator who divides her time between France and Kenya, who devoted herself to bringing this story to life. In her work Alex combines her unique artistic voice with a playful, evocative exploration of past and future. She delights in creating the visual interpretation of the narratives of myths and legends, primarily from Africa.
