THE CALL
The call came in at around 2pm on a Wednesday Morning mid-October 2017. It was from a recruiting coach at a division 1 University. The call went through a 3rd party and went something like this:
This is coach. How are you today? I was calling today to see if Jimmy wanted to play at University. We would like to offer him a roster spot on our team.
Wow, thank you what an honor. Of course, I need to speak with the Mark’s, as you know there have been a few other schools circling him, and I’m not sure exactly which way he is leaning. “Our school is one of the top institutions in the country…a degree from our University means a lot.” Yes, I will pass that along to the family. How much time
do they have to make this decision? They are scheduled to leave for 2 showcases in Florida this weekend. Can I get you an answer after the Florida trip.
Well, “the offer is on the table for today and today only. If he chooses to go to the showcases our offer is off the table.” We like Jimmy a lot and we would love to have him come play shortstop for us…but it’s a 24-hour offer.
Ok, I’ll let the family know. “Can we set up a call tonight for 8pm with the family?” Yes, sure let’s do that. Great Goodbye.
