Gunfire

The echo of bombs

Horrific screams …

Senka Delic knows first-hand about the lasting effects of a brutal conflict. After escaping the war in Bosnia with her family in 1992, she lived in a refugee center in Denmark, where she finally found a much-needed outlet by writing poems that allowed her to process the emotions surrounding her stolen childhood, the fears, abandonment issues, and ultimately feeling broken inside.

Divided into three parts—War, Love, and Life—Delic’s verse leads others down a raw, honest path that provides a heartfelt glimpse into what it is like to survive war and struggle to love and live without guilt. Her poems poignantly reveal her inner-struggles as she was forced to surrender her dreams, questioned the purpose of war, and began a new chapter in a strange land. Throughout her verse, Delic reminds others that there is always hope for a better future, no matter what we have endured in the past.

In this moving collection of poems, a Bosnian war survivor shares candid insight into the struggles that surrounded her as she attempted to move forward from the darkness of evil and into the light of healing.
