The car stopped. Mrs. Everheart, Timmy, and Tromper got out. Tromper asked Timmy to set him down on the ground, for he had never walked on grass before. The grass was like a jungle to Tromper; everything looked so much different than from above on Timmy’s shoulder. Still, he marched proudly alongside Timmy, dodging blades of grass, rough spots, small hills and pebbles.
Every so often Tromper would leap into the air, trying to see above the grass. Timmy laughed to see Tromper flying high, his big ears streaming in the wind as it carried him along…it was quite a sight! Timmy watched as Tromper dropped suddenly out of sight into the tall grass. He realized then there would be many more adventures for them both.
Delighted-and distracted-by his big ears, Tromper was lost to happiness when something whooshed over his head! Jumping onto Timmy's shoe, Tromper scurried awkwardly up his shoulder, and jumped into his shirt pocket. Squiggling quickly around, Tromper peered suspiciously out, holding tightly onto the pocket with his trunk.
WHOOSH!
"What was that?" Tromper asked nervously.
"A bird," replied Timmy. "We must be more careful!"
Tromper felt a little scared, but realized he was safe in Timmy's pocket. The park was proving to be an adventure all right! As great as it was, Timmy and Tromper now realized how careful they would have to be-especially around birds- because Tromper was so small. Yikes!
Not only was he very small, but Tromper was very curious. Since the bird had gone, Timmy again set Tromper down on the grass to play. In no time, Tromper was jumping delightedly into the air and disappearing back into the tall grass. The littlest thing delighted him! Everything was so new to the tiny elephant!
