I don’t have a mom; it’s just Dad and me
Unless you count Sis, but she’s only three.
There’s also our dog, our cat, and chinchilla
Four goats, five rats, and Fred – my gorilla.
So sometimes at night I can’t get to sleep
I toss and I turn and even count sheep.
And there in the dark lurks a monster who’s mad
I scream - then I laugh – it’s only my dad.
He sits by my bed and turns on a light
He always knows how to make everything right.
He sticks out his tongue and crosses his eyes
Then wiggles his ears, pretending to fly
“Are you ready,” he asks, “for the story of stories,
Of castles and kings and knights in their glory
Of magic and maidens and dragons so mean,
That even the fire they breathe is bright green?”
“You bet!” I reply and give him a squeeze
‘Cause Dad can tell stories certain to please.
“This tale you will hear,” he calmly begins
“Is all about Norton the King and his friends.

About the Book
When it’s time for bed, the little boy can’t sleep, tossing and turning and imagining monsters in his room. His understanding and gentle father comes to the rescue and tells him a story. About the Author
J. F. Ciofalo taught students in the fifth grade for several years. Prior to that, he was a stay-at-home father to his own two children. During that time, he wrote twenty children’s stories and much poetry. Ciofalo lives in Arizona with his wife, Gretchen, and their dog, Lucy.
