For almost ten years, I have seen the successes and failures of my friends, my colleagues, and my co-workers. It is heartbreaking to witness all of the things happening around me. I have consoled many, and I mean many, of my clients as they cried drunkenly in front of me in my office. That's why I regularly have candies in my office. Deep in my heart, I understand how hard it is for you to find an internship or job in the United States. Also, I have witnessed countless people become frustrated in their efforts to find a job, or fail to do so and be obliged to go back to China. I do not intend or imply that going back to China is a terrible idea or a failure. What I intend to say is that people like opportunities, and at the end of the day, I have to let people determine what works the best for them. Numerous clients got jobs or internships in the United States; some of them choose to go back to China and are doing just fine with their career as I write this book. A couple decided to pursue their education for a master’s degree as a long-term plan. It makes me feel especially vulnerable, but at the same time very gratified, to do what I love to do, which is sharing the happiness and assisting efforts to pursue dreams with clients and readers just like you. Every day, I wake up to recognize how extraordinary it is for me to acknowledge the truth with integrity and honesty because sometimes, even one sentence or one piece of advice I give my clients can change their life journey forever. Countless Chinese international scholars missed a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity because they did not appreciate the essence of how cross-cultural acumen impacts a job or internship, interview strategy, or global professional career management in general. I was born into a family of highly educated professionals and an extremely intellectual environment. My father is a professor at Peking University, and my mother is an engineer at Peking University as well. In our generation, it is pretty impressive to have such a highly educated family in China. I have never dared to waste a single minute or two since I was a child. Sometimes I joke around with my friends and say I came from a “horrible” family with rigorous parents. If you come from a teacher’s family or professor's family, you know what I am talking about. I may have read tens of thousands of books in my life, thanks to my parents. I started to read as much as I could early in life, and this habit been with me for more than 15 years.

About the Author
