It has been two years and Sandra and I have settled into the new job here in Los Angeles. It’s a warm sunny summer day as the sunlight streams through the bedroom window. She wakes to the load buzz of a morning alarm clock. Rolling over to her right side, she reaches out her right arm across her chest to slap the snooze button. It is finally silent again after having the alarm sound for a solid five minutes. Like a knife cutting through butter the loud sound of the clock cut through the early day slumber of Sandra. She is now sitting up straight in bed. Exactly in the center of the queen size round bed is where her small body is swallowed up. Her skin is rich dark brown against the cream sheets and the comforter of the bed. She flops back on the bed to fall back asleep. Just when she is about to go back to sleep and roll over on her side and hug the pillow, the alarm sounds again. Only this time it catches her off guard. “Ok,” she thinks to herself.

Aerle Taree is a former member of the two-time Grammy award-winning group, Arrested Development. She earned a bachelor’s degree in humanities (with a focus in art) from Oglethorpe University.
