Once upon a time in Independence, Iowa a farmer by the name of Edward Hagan lost all but three of his family's lives. Three sons lived. The rest of the family was buried in St. John's Cemetery. As a young adolescent boy, my great grandfather, Martin Hagan was orphaned. He and his two fellow brothers walked out into the world alone but alive.

In this memoir, she reflects on her family’s history in Iowa and Kansas and discusses how she processes her father’s potential demise amidst the social restrictions of the covid pandemic. Through narrative and examples of letters and Facebook messages sent, Bruno offers a look into her world as a daughter, wife, mother, woman of faith, and volunteer.
In Operation Unicorn, she tells how she came to a new understanding about herself, her family, and what she can give to the world.
