“What do I look like?” she asked. Sitting up straight, she craned her neck to view herself in the mirror. At first glance, she presumed that the mirror was cracked. Seconds later, she realized that the crack was in her own face. A scar ran from mid- temple to her jaw line. Her bald head sported a web of stitches.
As she glanced at her message, Deidra’s complexion changed from rosy to pale. “
Are you okay?”
“We need to get out of here.”
“What? What is it?”
She handed him her phone to read the message. Printed in bold letters he read, “I can see you now. You cannot hide. Tell me where and when we can meet up. It’s time to pay your debt.”

About the Book

About the Author
Barbara McLain is a retired United Methodist minister. Besides pastoring several churches throughout Kansas, she has directed and taught preschool as well as public speaking for a community college. Barbara lives in Ransom, Kansas, with her husband. They enjoy visiting their grown children and spoiling their grandchildren.
