A very windy day snapped tree limbs leaving debris in our backyard. Both Lillian and I, tired from cleaning up branches, decided to have a quick bite to eat, shower and head up to bed early to watch TV. While lying in bed watching tv and holding hands, Lillian turned down the volume with the remote. I turned my head toward her and asked, “What’s wrong?” She replied, “Give me your hand.” She placed my hand on the side of her right breast and asked me if I could feel a small lump. I told her I couldn’t really feel anything, but asked her to explain what she was talking about.
Lillian told me she had been experiencing a dull pain in her right breast and had been feeling a lump for about a week. I told her she needed to make an appointment with her OB/GYN the very next morning, that this wasn’t something to be taken lightly. She told me she thought that it might be a pimple or maybe an ingrown hair follicle, but that it didn’t seem to be going away.
I didn’t get any sleep that night. I just had a bad feeling about it.

About the Book
Robert Attenello pays tribute to his amazing wife, Lillian, in Her Journey through My Eyes.
At first blush, they may have seemed like an odd pair: She was a real estate and immigration paralegal and he was a construction worker with rough edges. But opposites attract—and they were perfect together.
They had lots of fun and enjoyed lots of romance, but their story took a tragic turn when Lillian was diagnosed with breast cancer. The doctors planned to perform a double mastectomy and remove the cluster of lymph nodes affected by the cancer. But further scans revealed bad news: Lillian’s cancer had spread to her bones. Doctors, however, were still hopeful that the cancer could be treated.
Lillian put on her warrior face and steeled herself for what was to come. Some days, she barely had the strength to get out of bed or her recliner. But she always fought through those awfully long and difficult days.

Robert F. Attenello (Bobby) has always had a passion for creative writing and poetry. He’s very spiritual, but has a slight rough side to him as he is a lifelong construction worker. His deep love for his wife has inspired him to complete his desire to publish his writing. His debut as an author is Her Journey Through My Eyes, the true love story of him and his wife Lillian.
