She remembers her mother coming home from her father's funeral and telling her sister who was three years older than her, to start a fire so that she could prepare dinner This was a wood stove and to get the wood to start to burn it was necessary to pour kerosene on it, which she did but something unusual happened and in the next moment the house was in flames. She remembers her mother running to the bedroom and grabbing a white sheet to wave in the air to alert her father who was in the field about 3 or 4 miles down the road chopping cotton.As the blaze got bigger and the black smoke became more visible he looked up and saw her mother waving the sheet and came running.

This personal narrative tells the story of Noble Fields, a military veteran who became a black woman millionaire through real estate investment.
