Much Sadness for Cole
The sisters had seen this before. Without what seems any provocation, once again “Cole loses it” and terrifies Kate and Robin. The conversation was up in the sisters’ house where Cole
successfully unplugged the bathroom shower. He didn’t overreact when he had to remove globs of hair to free up the drain. Maybe the sisters didn’t thank him enough or was it the opposite? You never know with Cole.
When Cole is enraged there is usually a stream of profanity, but this never rattled the sisters because profanity was something they used all the time. Cole was worked up about something else, and Robin pressed on to find out what it was.
“Alright Cole we see your bullshit aggressiveness getting out of control, and we want to know what’s got you so messed up. What is it?”
“Nothing you two assholes can do anything about.”
“We are your employers and not the two dumb bitches you think we are. So, grow up and pretend you are an adult and tell us what has your brain barging out of your ass this morning. If not, get the hell out. We have to get ready for work.”
“My older brother shot and killed himself. Okay? He was a good person. Not like me. My mom saw him shoot himself in the mouth with a .38 standing in the doorway to his bedroom.”
Robin responded with some assertions and questions: “Dam. That is screwed up. Why did he do it? Did he say anything? Leave a note?”
Cole was calm now. He sat down on Kate’s bed, and lit up a cigarette. He was crying as he just smoked and stared. Robin was shocked into silence, but not Kate.
“Hey asshole, as long as you’re smoking in my bedroom and on my bed, why don’t you take a shit in it while you’re at it?”
Cole stared at Kate, and then said to Robin in a strange, calm and supportive way,” Why don’t you take your sister out today and get her laid? It could start the process of making her into a human being.” With that Cole walked back to the Animal Residences just as Jay and some other dude was pulling in.
Kate and Robin could not stop giggling as they aired out the bedroom and recalled all the funny things that were just said. They were acting as they did as silly teenagers, but with Robin at 29 and Kate at 31 perhaps a higher level of maturity may have been expected.
Whatever. Robin was thinking that Cole was not the only crazy critter at the K9 & Kat Rescue Farm, and weird that neither she nor Kate told Cole they were sorry about his brother.
