CHAPTER TWO MY CAT CLEO We have a cat named Cleo who has the run of the house. She is gray and white and has green eyes. Her full name is Cleopatra. I named her after Cleopatra the Queen of Egypt because of her green eyes. She is very smart for a cat. She can do tricks that most cats can't do. Cats are so finicky and they do what they want to do. Cleo loves the smell of cough drops. I think she likes the menthol smell. If I toss a piece of fruity candy she sniffs it and walks away. One day I was bored and told Cleo to fetch the cough drop when I threw it. The first time she ran to it and just sniffed it. The second time I threw it she ran to it and started patting it around on the floor. The third time she just stared at it and then looked at me like she was saying “Are you kidding me, you want me to go after it ?” As I said before, cats are very finicky and when they want to do something they will, but if they don't want to they won't.

Hayley Marie is a typical curious eight-year-old girl who loves to learn, go to school, and read. She has an annoying five-year-old brother, Matthew, and she has to share a room with him, which is frustrating. Then, suddenly, Hayley’s dad has some good news. The family is moving into a newly built house, and both Hayley and Matthew will have their own rooms. Hayley is nervous about going to a new school and meeting new friends, but it’s still an exciting change. The family begins settling into the new home, and they all start feeling more comfortable. But then Haley comes across something strange and magical in the house. She’ll have to keep it secret from her family for a bit, but eventually the truth will need to come out—before someone gets hurt. In this children’s story, when a little girl moves with her family to a new home, she makes a fantastical discovery in the house’s basement and finds an unusual new friend.
About the Author
Deborah J. Cuellar was born and raised in Gary, Indiana. She raised two children, who gave her seven grandchildren. She loves bragging about her children and grandchildren, reading to her grandchildren, gardening, and interior decorating.
