Where’s the soldier that went out with no orders that brought these soldiers back to safety” the general demanded to know? Smitty got out of Lug Nut, saluted the general and answered, “Private Smith reporting for duty General Sir”.
The General eyeballed Smitty from head to toe. Then he eyeballed Lug Nut from bumper.
“Private Smith, all on your lonesome you decided to leave the base with no orders and set out on some daring rescue mission. Is that right soldier”? “Not on my own General Sir! Lug Nut and I went together”.
As Smitty said that, the General again looked at Lug Nut.
The Generals’ eye missed nothing. He had already seen Lug Nut’s name painted on his door over the Army Star.
“How did you find them Private Smith” demanded the General? “It was almost like someone was talking in my ear General! Then I just followed the map. Lucky I guess”. “Luck don’t mean a thing in this man’s army without bravery and devotion to duty to go with it Corporal Smith”! “General, Sir”? “You have been promoted to Corporal son! How old are you”? “Eighteen General Sir”! “Same age as I was when I enlisted Corporal Smith. Now, let me have a good look at this Chevy truck of yours that goes by the name of Lug Nut.”
“Yes Sir General Sir”!
“Fine stout truck you have here Corporal Smith.Corporal Smith, think you can swipe some paint from the motor pool without getting caught by the supply Sergeant”? “General Sir! Swipe some paint, Sir”?
“Corporal Smith, Lug Nut has been promoted to Private First Class and needs his rank painted on his doors!
“Yes Sir General sir.”
“Corporal Smith, if I didn’t know better, I’d swear PFC Lug Nut just raised his right fender in a sharp salute”! “I know what you mean General. Lug Nut sort of has that effect on a fella once you’ve been around him a while”.
The General then simply said “Carry on Soldiers” and Smitty and Lug Nut both saluted in return. The General saw both salutes and said softly as he walked away “Nothing surprises me any more in this man’s army”.

About the Book
PFC Lug Nut is a 1942 Army truck. His best friend is Smitty, a private in the Army. Lug Nut has the ability to talk with Smitty and also has mechanical telepathy, which he uses to talk to other trucks, even those far away.
One day Lug Nut learns that two other trucks, Hub and Bumper, are lost in the woods, along with a few mechanics, and now the whole group is stuck in the snow. Without orders, Smitty and his truck set out into the woods so they can save their friends. On the way, they even help a mother cow from a muddy pond, making sure that she and her calf are safe.
Lug Nut is willing to risk it all to protect those that he loves, so he and Smitty stop at nothing to rescue their friends. If they can pull this off, they’ll save lives—and might even get promoted!
