When the girl and her mother approach the teacher’s desk at the end of the night, she soon learns that it may be up to her to rescue a former student from an unthinkable fate. As two families reside next to each other in a neighborhood, their children happily play together without any idea that a chain of events is about to unfold that will make them realize that true friendships can endure even the most tragic of circumstances. Born in Heaven is a collection of short stories that explores experiences and thoughts of young people as they bravely navigate the joys and difficulties of life.

About the Author

Mrs. Krishna Chaudhuri Mukhopadhyay has been living in the United States for a long period of time. She taught mathematics in a magnet public high school. Having taught the adolescents for a number of years Mrs. Chaudhuri has gained a thorough understanding of the maze of the young minds. Her love for children gave her a deep insight and a successful career in teaching. All the stories have been written based upon her personal experiences and day to day involvement with the student bodies although all the characters and the events are imaginary. If anyone find any similarity of the characters or the description in the stories it is purely incidental. Mrs. Chaudhuri is a member of various educational organizations, the most notably Kappa Delta Pi, an international educational honor society. Mrs. Chaudhuri is the founding member, trustee, chief editor and a writer of the online magazine www.usbengalforum.com.

This book is about teaching high school students. It is relevant for teachers and student teachers. A wonderful book!

I have known Ms. Chaudhuri for the last twenty years as a fellow teacher in an urban high school, USA. I have enjoyed reading her book, “Born In Heaven” for many reasons. The first is that she does draw a good picture of classroom dynamics: students coming late to class, students unprepared for class, the routines of classroom management, the positives of striving students, etc., and the compromises the teacher makes to motivate and teach all of her students. Secondly, I think Ms. Chaudhuri knows herself well. She has a style of teaching and of being, that cannot be tampered with or destroyed. She is a strong and fair teacher and her students believe in her. This was exemplified in the final tale of the book where Ms. Chaudhuri becomes aware of the difficult home life of one of her students. She sympathizes with his struggles but does not let them disrupt his learning math. She has him come after school every day for extra tutoring and he does succeed. She learns of her total positive influence on his life many years later when he is a successful artist. I think the best part of the book is that Ms. Chaudhuri is able to convey what I have seen about her. She loves her students and takes the responsibility of teaching very seriously. I recommend this book to all Student Teachers who are now embarking on a career that demands what Ms. Chaudhuri was able to give: fairness, love, and knowledge.
The book " Born in Heaven " , written by Mrs. Krishna Chaudhuri Mukhopadhyay is very well written . Her writing style is very unique . This book just grips you and makes one to continue reading page after page . She paints a scene in your mind and makes you feel as though the stories are happening in front of you . Everyone young or old will definitely cherish reading this book .

Book Review “ Born in Heaven “ by Krishna Chaudhuri Mukhopadhyay “ Born in Heaven “ by Mrs. Krishna Chaudhuri Mukhopadhyay is a delightful collection of short stories . All the short stories are real life stories of high school students , whom the author taught over the years , sometimes emotional , sometimes depicting high achievement after uphill struggles , etc but in general , ending with optimism and positive thoughts . The book is easy to read , the author’s meticulous attention to details is praiseworthy , the readers can get a good idea how high schools operate just by reading the book . The author felt the pains , sorrows and joys of the students personally, and the way she shared them with the readers that they can easily identify with the sentiments expressed . No wonder , I endorsed the author, she fulfilled all my confidence in her abilities . - Sabyasachi Gupta
