Death sat on the edge of the aged black leather chair. What was once the sight of a beautiful young woman, had prematurely soured with age and become that of a decrepit forty-five-year-old, whose face had withered by the use of the drugs that had just consumed her life.
Her name was Kimberly Penny, a woman whose obituary would be full of non-interesting things, a name that many would just ignore with the exception of two notable moments, both related to James Francis Alexander. The first being that she dated the successful magnate and current governor of Texas, and the second, being that she mothered his only child, Tyler Alexander.
The heroin needle could still be seen drooping from Kimberly’s forearm, when her son entered the room.
Silence radiated from within him. Wanting to feel sadness, yet all he could muster was absolute rage. Even knowing what his eyes were witnessing, he didn’t rush to her aide. Deep down he knew that this was more than an unfortunate moment, it was a cruel inevitability.

About the Author
Anthony R. Sissine was born into a multi-cultural family that settled in McAllen, Texas. He attended the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where he studied philosophy, economics, political science, and psychology.
