I picked up the skull and examined it closely. She had a beautiful skull. “I would have loved to meet you,” I murmured. I very gently laid the skull down and told her to stay there. “I will be back.” I shuffled over to where I had seen the sparkle. In front of me was the most beautiful piece of ancient jewelry I had ever seen. It was some kind of a breastplate and was embedded with all kinds of jewels. In the center was a clear orb with a red glow inside. I picked it up and examined all of its details. I sat by the skull and asked if this was hers. I then found a small latch that opened the orb. Being the curious creature that I was, I opened it.
“What is this?” I whispered to myself.
With one hand, I touched the power and felt a weird tingle. I closed the orb and sat down. Then it happened. A flash of light filled the room. A wisp of a small cloud came off my finger and gathered at the other end of the room. Within seconds, a figure formed. It was a beautiful Mayan woman dressed in full regalia. It looked like a Mayan princess. Feathers, gold, and beads adorned her perfect body. Her face was painted in a fashion indicating a ritual design. She stood before me like a queen judging a follower and made motions for me to speak.
I stammered and tried to talk. “Uh, Your Majesty, I guess? I’m Russell. I, uh, accidentally knocked down the wall. I’m sorry if I disturbed you. If this is your skull, uh, I’ll put it back.”
The woman started talking. “Russell? Wall, skull. Sorry. Keep speaking.”
“Uh, OK. Well, let me see. I am an archaeologist, or at least a student. I am with a group trying to find—well, you! Are you the last princess of the Mayan civilization?”
She sat down and slowly started to speak. “I guess I am. It is sad that my people failed. It was so long ago that I have forgotten all that happened when I was slain.” She then looked up at me with her powerful eyes and asked, “You touched my blood, didn’t you?”
“Oh, God, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean any disrespect. I was just, uh …”
She smiled and told me that it was OK. She then came over to me and touched my face with her soft hand. She was cold but had an energy that I could not explain. She seemed to read my mind. “Listen closely. You need to keep my amulet and tell your professor what you found. He has a plan that will help the world. Now, you might, as you would say, freak out with what I must do next. Don’t be afraid. You might even like it. At least you won’t feel alone!”
“Wait! What are you going to do?”
She reached down and kissed me. Cold lips or not, that kiss was mind-boggling. I closed my eyes while that happened, and when it stopped she was gone.
“Where did you go?” I shouted.
I heard her voice whisper from inside me. “I am one with you. And we have to do something about your diet.”
