About the Book
In Between Breath and Pain, author Margaret J. Pittenger integrates breath work with movement patterns that open channels of communication with pain. Whether your pain comes from tension or from injury, you can restore balance within your body through guided practice. Pittenger offers a practicum of movement working with breath to: • change breath rhythms and movement patterns to experience less pain; • demonstrate specific information showing how the body works to heal from pain; • use movement to restore balance within the body; • demonstrate how normal movement patterns can become restricted by painful tissue; • relieve stress and pain during pregnancy, as the baby changes the mother’s center of gravity; • build awareness of neuroplasticity (brain communication); and • gain permanent changes in the awareness of movement patterns. With a unique blend of written and video-demonstrated movement patterns, Between Breath and Pain offers over fifty videos accessed through QR codes to demonstrate the exercises designed to improve breath and release pain across the body. Praise for Between Breath and Pain “Margaret’s gentle, thoughtful humanity infuses her work. She approaches each client as a uniquely suffering individual. Her unobtrusive gentleness supports trust in therapy and self-acceptance. As a practicing psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, I refer my patients to Margaret. With relief of muscular tension, they begin a recall process that allows healing.” —Elizabeth Trawick, MD
