About the Author
The third of his parents’ four children, Dick was born in New Jersey a month ahead of the "crash" of 1929 - the beginning of the Great Depression. The event precipitated his family's moving to central Indiana where he lived in his widowed grandmother's home until his graduation from high school in 1947. In 1951, he graduated with a degree in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame. Marrying his college sweetheart a year later, he spent nearly three years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Following his service, he began a 30 year career which found him as an art director and ultimately principal in a small firm that published newspaper advertising layouts and designs; a monthly publication that served nearly 700 daily newspapers in the United States and Canada. *Today, he and his spouse of sixty-plus years bask in the gift of their eight children, nineteen grandchildren and fourteen
great-grandchildren.
