That sly old wākoh (wah-ko, fox) had a de-lic-ious mīcehswan (me-chih-swun, treat) and the Weyawekaeh (way-yah-wih-kah, old woman) and kaeqc-enaeniw (katch-ih-naah-nee-w, old man) had nothing to mēcehsow (may-chi-soh, eat). Not a bite was left for awa͞ehsaeh (uh-waah-sah, bear), pahpēsew (pa-pay-sue-w, hunter) or apāēhsos (uh-paah-so-s, deer). So let us go otāhtanaesiahkaneh (oh-tah-tih-na-shia-kun-nay, home) and get out the apuahsokan (uh-pua-so-kun, pan) and we’ll make ourselves a new Paskīpemīqsow pahkīsekan (pus-kee-pih-meet-so puh-kee-si-kun, frybread) enaeniw (ih-naah-nee-w, man) but this time we’ll be certain to lock the back eskuahtem (ih-skoo-ah-tim, door) And when Paskīpemīqsow pahkīsekan (pus-kee-pih-meet-so puh-kee-si-kun, frybread) enaeniw(ih-naah-nee-w, man), is mēcekasow (may-chih-kuh-so, eaten) we’ll make us some more!

About the Book

In this book the Frybread Man takes off on the old woman and her husband and runs from animals he meets in the forest in this woodland version of the classic Gingerbread Man. This book is designed to teach young readers and their families Menominee language words and how to say them with a pronuncian key at the beginning of the book and phonetics by each word.
