Fear of Dreams

Momma and I had gone to the grocery store in town. When we got home, we brought the groceries into our house, and we were putting them up in the kitchen. As I was helping her, I looked up to see a man, all dressed in black, open our front door and step inside. This scary-looking man had cowboy boots and a hat on but did not look like any cowboy I had ever seen. His face looked so evil and ugly, his eyes were extremely dark and beady, and the whites of his eyes were bloodshot and appeared to be bloody. I thought, is he even alive as he had dirt all over his clothes and appeared to be a ghostly figure? Had he come back from the grave to kill us for some reason? Is he a lunatic, as I noticed in his hand, he had a switchblade? In my mind, I quickly thought, if he was a cowboy, why didn’t he have a gun, not a switchblade. I was trying so hard to figure out how to save us. No matter who or what he was, I knew he was going to kill us, and I was so afraid. I was shaking all over as I felt the hair raise on my arms. I was petrified and this was the worse nerve-racking situation I had ever been in. Momma just stood there staring at him. In my mind, as I saw a large box of cereal on our table; I knew if I threw it at him, it would kill him. He would not murder us if I killed him first. He was walking slowly towards us, and I thought this is it, we are going to be murdered if I don’t do something right now. As I picked up the cereal box, my arms turned to jello, and I dropped the box. He was coming towards us, closer and closer, and I screamed. I was shaking all over as I awoke from this scary dream. Veronica, my younger sister, woke me up yelling, “Rachael, wake up!” she said, “It’s just another one of your bad dreams.” I heard Momma and Dad racing down the hall to try to calm me down so I could go back to sleep. They already knew it had been a bad dream. I kept my whole family awake many times at night with screaming from my dreams.
