About the Book

A boy named Jack Gum rides his bike to and from school every day and passes by his favorite tree, Goldy. Then one day he discovers that Goldy is gone; in her place there is only a stump. What can he do?

Jack begins to think about ways to help Goldy go back to the way she was. First he visits his friend Lucy the Ladybug and tells her the bad news and asks her to help. As they travel back to where Goldy once stood, they meet Francesca the Frog, Delilah the Duck, Ruth the Rooster, and Patricia the Pig. Together the friends work on a plan to get their favorite tree back to the blossoming way she was before.

Offering a light-hearted and fun approach to community and environmentalism, this children’s story follows a boy and his animal friends as they help their favorite tree grow once more.
