The Storm

Cheryl and Mitchell Casey sat- what seemed like miles apart- on the front porch of the three bedroom home in Georgia . it had been almost 2 months since what people were calling “the big storm“ had passed through. The storm that launched a dozen tornadoes and wreaked havoc across the small southeastern town of Marietta. Two months since buildings were demolished and neighborhoods erased. Two months since Lucas had disappeared. Cheryl didn’t speak she just sat and stared at the driveway. There were days upon endless days when she never left the bed. Mitchell wasn’t sure if he trusted his son would ever be found. He knew his wife was a suspect in the disappearance and he remembered the detective at the station saying the car was clean. “No evidence of foul play. No blood. We will keep you Informed. The fact of the matter was, there should have been blood. There should’ve been a lot of blood. Cheryl was slowly falling apart. He wanted to fall apart too and sometimes he thought that at any moment one or both of them would start screaming and never stop.
