Have you ever seen a dragon? Have you ever wondered if dragons really exist? What would you do if you saw a dragon? Or a dragon’s egg? Long ago, in Green Valley, a small village snuggled at the foot of Dragon Mountain, lived a little girl who asked herself some of these questions. This little girl, Claire, often thought about dragons. She listened spellbound to the stories about dragons the elders of Green Valley repeated to their children and grandchildren. In the past, it seemed, dragons were frequently spotted flying high above the valley. Where had they gone? Claire wondered. Would they ever return? Chapter 1 The Egg Claire, her older brother Harvey, and their mom and dad lived on their family’s farm in Green Valley. Claire was full of energy and loved to explore the woods. She climbed every tree and scampered up the foothills of the mountains to get as high as possible. She loved to look out over their valley. When she ran into lots of ice cover and snow, she would turn back. She knew she should not go this far up by herself, but she had a truly adventurous spirit! Each day Claire visited a glade that was filled with light and had the softest green grass. It was her special place on the farm. But one sunny day when she went there, she saw the biggest, most beautiful egg she could ever have imagined. It was white but had hues of blue shining through the shell. Claire was so excited but also nervous.

About the Book
This book tells the story of a young girl, Claire, and her family who lived long ago in Green Valley. She lived near Dragon Mountain where many people claimed to have seen dragons. She then found a dragon egg that hatched. She bonded with her new dragon, Twill, and started on the adventure of raising a dragon herself.
About the Author
Betsy Beacham Sceiford earned her bachelor’s degree from Allegheny College. She taught fifth grade in Indiana for three years. Betsy earned her master’s in reading from the University of Wisconsin. She then served as a reading specialist for twenty-nine and a half years in North East, Pennsylvania. Betsy enjoys reading, writing, crafting, playing cards (especially duplicate bridge). Betsy wrote her first book, Sausage and Biscuit, told through the voices of her two dogs. The main characters in this book are named for and based on two of of her youngest grandchildren, Harvey and Claire. She is seen here with her son, Michael, to whom the book is dedicated. He took his mom west with him to fulfill her bucket list desire to see the Grand Canyon and many other great sites. Many thanks to his wonderful wife, Stephanie, who made this possible by staying home with Harvey and Claire.
