About the Author
Manuel Franco Ortega is a retired First Vice President and Technology Manager with more than five decades of leadership experience in management and information systems. His career spans thirteen industries—including aerospace, banking, oil, retail, and telecommunications—where he advanced enterprise data practices and guided organizations through complex regulatory and technological change. He began as a Logistics Engineer at Lockheed Missiles and Space Company, contributing to the Polaris, Poseidon, and Trident missile programs. Later, as one of the earliest Database Administrators, he worked across multiple platforms—including Oracle and DB2—and co-founded the Puget Sound Chapter of DAMA to promote standards and collaboration in data management. Throughout his career, Manuel became known for building high-performing global teams and blending technical expertise with practical leadership. He has also taught workshops on environmental awareness, leadership, and personal development, and continues to mentor emerging professionals. He and his wife, Martha, live in West Seattle, Washington, and are the proud parents of two sons, Matthew and Mark.
