About the Book

Eliza Grayson graduated high school in a tiny Appalachian town just as young men were being drafted for the Vietnam War. Although her intent was to leave her town as soon as she could, things did not turn out the way she planned when she, as a naïve seventeen-year-old victim of constant bullying, was lured into an abusive, toxic relationship with a teacher and coach with a diabolical plan to avoid the draft. As Grayson leads others into the details of her nightmare, she reveals how the perpetrator gained total control over her life, forced her into indentured servitude, and manipulated her children. After she eventually outsmarted him, escaped with only the clothing on her back, and became homeless and penniless, Grayson discloses how she started life again at age sixty and clawed her way back to purchase a car and home, earn a second master’s degree and dual PhD at age seventy-one, and graduate from medical school at age seventy-four. Throughout her inspiring recollections, Grayson proves that success is the best revenge. In this fascinating true story, a silent survivor trapped in a toxic relationship for decades reveals how she ultimately escaped him, homelessness, and destitution to find redemption, fulfillment, and success in her third act.

About the Author

Eliza Grayson is the pen name of a peer-reviewed author of numerous academic journal articles and a textbook. Drawing deeply from personal experience, she finds striking parallels between her own life and that of the real Eliza she writes about—both bound by emotional servitude to a narcissistic sociopath. Through perseverance and resolve, she overcame emotional terror, homelessness, and destitution to rebuild her life and achieve success against all odds. Strip Maul, the first in her series of nonfiction works, is a raw and fearless exploration of survival, resilience, and the price of freedom. Proceeds from this book will help establish The Eliza Grayson Charitable Trust Foundation which will provide educational funding for survivors of intimate partner violence.
