It was dark, so deep he couldn’t see his hands before his face. The wind howled around him like an angry animal. Am I standing or floating? His feet told him that there was a firm surface. He opened his mouth to speak, but only a croak escaped his throat. He felt a sensation of being jolted side to side by invisible hands—a voice called in the distance, muffled but strident. Brother Greg’s heart was racing—the sound of enormous wings flapping against the wind and an angry voice. He opened his eyes. Grace was beside him in bed, pushing his shoulder and yelling his name. “Greg! Wake up!” He sat up quickly, the tentacles of the dream falling away. “What the hell?” Grace next to him with a look of concern, then relief. “You were yelling something and thrashing around. That must have been a hell of a dream.” He did not know what it was, but if it were a dream, it felt as real as the bed he was lying on. “I’m OK. Guess I have a lot on my mind.” He rubbed his eyes and got out of bed. “You best get back to your room, too, Grace. You know we have a meeting with the campaign director this morning.” Greg winked at Grace, and he was back to his old self. “Got to keep up appearances.” “Of course. I should mess my bed up so it looks like I slept in it.” She winked back and walked to her adjoining room. “See you at breakfast. Yes, that meeting with Senator Horton is at nine to iron out the details of the rally.” Greg admired her naked body as she deliberately strolled across the room. What the hell was that dream about? Wings? It felt like a memory.
