About the Author
Dr. Kingsley R. Chin is an orthopaedic spine surgeon, entrepreneur, investor, and author whose leadership journey reflects a commitment to discipline, resilience, and building lasting impact. Born and raised in Jamaica, he carried the values of hard work and personal responsibility with him as he advanced through his education and career. While studying engineering at Columbia University, he was elected Senior Class President, becoming the first Black student to hold that role at the School of Engineering. That experience shaped his early understanding of leadership, responsibility, and representation. After graduating, Dr. Chin began his professional career in engineering and business. He interned at AT and T Bell Laboratories in New Jersey and later worked as a management information systems consultant at Andersen Consulting, now Accenture. During this time, he gained valuable experience working on Wall Street with Goldman Sachs and in the insurance industry with Cigna in Hartford, Connecticut. These early roles provided a strong foundation in business, systems thinking, and execution. He went on to earn his medical degree from Harvard Medical School and built a career as a spine surgeon and academic leader. He later served as Chief of Orthopaedic Spine Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, reflecting both clinical excellence and leadership at the highest level. In parallel with his medical career, Dr. Chin founded Kingsley Investment Company, a private equity firm focused on healthcare innovation. Since 2005, he has led the firm in building and investing in technologies designed to improve patient care, establishing a platform grounded in long term thinking and disciplined execution. Dr. Chin is the author of eight books, including an orthopaedic textbook and Prove Yourself: 12 Essential Keys to Rise in Business and Life, which was inducted into the National Library of Jamaica. His work spans leadership, entrepreneurship, medicine, and personal development. He defines his professional identity through LESS: Leader, Entrepreneur, Spine Surgeon, reflecting the integration of leadership, business, and medicine. He is also a husband and father of three, and he views leadership at home as the foundation for leadership in every other area of life. He believes leadership is measured by what you build, who you develop, and what remains after you are no longer in the room.
