CHAPTER 19: John Sees an Angel
Phil, and the rest of John’s Crew were standing at the bar near the entry doorway of Freddie’s having beers; when they looked up to see what they described as four gorgeous black women. John wasn’t paying attention at first, he was drinking his beer facing away from the door, when Phil tapped him on the shoulder, and whispered, “look man, Black women are not my cup of tea, but those girls are beautiful. And don’t worry, I’m not going to say something that you believe to be racist.”
Then Phil paused and whispered again, “but I’d like to tap the ass of the one in the pink top.” Phil, Bruce, and Jack had begun to huddle and whisper as they continued to gaze at the woman standing in the doorway.
John looked over at the door and then placed his drink on the bar to make available both his hands to steady himself as he placed them on top of the bar. There may have been four beautiful girls; however, he saw only one girl. She was the vision of an angel. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen in his entire life. Her skin was radiant and luminous like warm caramel.
She was so stunning it caused John an emotional reaction that he had to keep to himself. She was extraordinarily striking, yet there was a sweetness about her, that made him fear for her safety in a place like this. He saw all that at one very long glance as she stood at the entryway. He found that just looking at her made him weak in the knees; so, placing both hands on the bar was what he needed at that moment.
John then looked at his watch. Phil asked, “are you getting ready to leave already, we just got here.” John replied, “I’m not going anywhere anytime soon. I just wanted to mark the time when I saw the most beautiful woman in the world at 7pm on this Friday evening.”
Jack leaned over at him and said, “she really is a black beauty man. I know which one you’re talking about. That one with the pink top on who thinks she owns the world.” John barely heard Jack’s comment as he couldn’t take his eyes off the one girl he saw. Then suddenly, his eyes met hers, and he could barely move for a second. In his nervousness, he quickly looked away. He thought to himself, “you are so stupid man.”
Then he turned back in her direction to watch her walk to a table, John watched her quickly look back at him; at least he hoped she was looking back at him and not some other dude. She moved with poise, grace, and confidence as she seated herself at the table, and from that moment on, he didn’t notice any other woman in the entire establishment.
John thought her body was perfect, she was sexy, sensual, and the way she wore those jeans made him crazy. Earlier he had noticed many of the women had a lot of skin showing. Only this girl, this woman was beautiful in a way of the girl next door, without all the extra. She was in a simple pair of jeans and tee shirt, but still alluring and desirable without even trying.
John thought, and all that beautiful thick black hair, where did that hair come from? It reminded him of his sister’s hair. Could it be a wig she was wearing or maybe two wigs? There was so much of it. But it didn’t matter, she was something to see. Somehow, he would get to know her better. Then he thought, a girl like that would never give someone like him the time of day.
John saw her charming smile as she settled in with her friends at table. Her smile was sweet, infectious, warm, and bright. He noted that her smile lights up her face with happiness and kindness, and her eyes slanted upward with each smile; it made him melt to see her smile. A long time ago, Buddy told him that a woman’s smile can have a powerful effect on a man. Buddy was right. That girl had already had a powerful effect on him, and he didn’t even know her name. Maybe before the evening was over, she would direct that smile at him. He had to at least know her name.
As Phil, Bruce, and Jack continued to whisper in a huddle as they gazed back and forth at the women; John shook himself a bit and thought, he’d have to try and meet her somehow, if nothing more than to get a close up of that angelic face and the smile that came with it. So, until he could muster up any courage to introduce himself, he would just discreetly watch for a while. Maybe step in to protect her from some of these yahoos if need be. He smirked at the thought, “another fight at Freddie’s might be in his near future.”
One thing was for sure, John realized he felt an excitement he had never felt before upon seeing that woman; and he seemed to be more alert to his surroundings for some reason. He even felt some anxiety about what to do next. He asked himself aloud, “what is wrong with me?
CHAPTER 20: The Girls’ View of White Men
The girls received their drinks, and as they laughed in conversation and whispered as they gossiped about the crowd; Yori could not help herself but to turn her gaze, from time to time, to the man at the bar. She noted he was looking directly at Jalsa as most men do. She said to herself, “oh well, he’s not interested in me.” But she could not shake the attraction she had for him, and she remind herself he was a white man. She thought, “I’m attracted to a white man! That’s never happened before.”
Yori tried to stay attentive to the conversation she was having with her friends, but her mind turned to a range of feelings; everything from a physical and emotional attraction to a man she did not know to a strong desire to know him better. She squirmed in her seat and felt the warmth inside her because of his presence.
Suddenly Jalsa abruptly said, as she nodded her head in the direction of the bar, “you see that fine-ass guy over there? The one with pretty eyes? He’s been staring at me nearly every moment since we arrived.” Anissa asked, “how do you know that?” Jalsa responded, “girl you know I see everything; especially when a man is interested.”
Kaira had remained quiet but jumped into that part of the conversation quickly, “Jalsa! Everyman in this bar has been looking our way ever since we got here. Why are you focusing on that one?” Yori asked herself, “did Kaira somehow know that she was attracted to the same man?” Just then, Kaira looked in Yori’s direction and winked. Jalsa leaned back in her chair, took a sip of her drink, and gave a little smile in the man’s direction. Then said, “It’s those eyes girl! And that wavy hair. That man is the finest man in this entire establishment. He may be white, but he’s gorgeous!”
Anissa turned around to look at him as well, and said, “well he really is cute, the one in the black polo, right?” Kaira then said to Jalsa, “just hold your roll girl for now, he may be just surprised to see Black women in this bar. We might just be a novelty.” Jalsa responded, “why wouldn’t he be interested in me? Have you seen the way he looks my way; like he’s in a trance or something.” She paused a moment, and then said, “I can wrap that white boy around my little finger.”
Jalsa stood up to straighten her clothes with a shimmy, and said, “I know we’re black, ladies. Except there isn’t a woman in this place that could hold a candle stick to us. I’m going over there to introduce myself.” Kaira shook her head, and laughed, “you’re such an arrogant bitch.” Jalsa gave Kaira a big smile and flipped her hair as she headed in the man’s direction. Yori thought, what just happened? Jalsa went to meet him, and that would be that!
Yori conveyed to Kaira and Anissa she was going to the lady’s room. Anissa asked, “do you want me to go with you?” Yori responded, “No I’m fine. You should stay here so we don’t lose our table.” Besides she wanted to be alone to redirect her thoughts; she had no chance now to meet the man that brought about such a stir of excitement within her.
