About the Author

C.D. Matthews is a former elevator operator, former newspaper vending machine stocker, former ice cream scooper and floor mopper, former Dutch Elm disease testing tree climber, former chipper operator, former clothing store stocker, former furniture deliverer, former theater usher, former house painter, former busboy, former waiter, former bartender, former restaurant manager, former reporter, former copy editor and headline writer, former box deliverer, former grade school teacher, former GED Math teacher, former AP Calculus instructor, and is desperately seeking to become a former college test prep tutoring Lyft driver. He lives in Chicago. Smiling Box Monster is his first published novel out of three, along with three short stories on childhood that have never seen the light of publication - yet have graced many a cocktail party in audio form, to mixed reviews.
