The stories in this book are based on real life law enforcement experiences. These stories come straight from the mouths of law enforcement officers and share with the readers what they have seen and done in the performance of their duties. The social upheaval that punctuated the late 1960’s was in full swing. The breakdown of traditional norms was evident everywhere you looked, as the growth of countercultural movements resulted in wholesale changes to society. I witnessed this first hand. I’d served as a U.S. Marine in Vietnam. When I returned home, there were no victory parades…just a chilly reception. As tensions were rising, compassion was an ingredient woefully missing from everyday life. And it wasn’t just the war or the veterans who served at the time that became the symbol for all that was wrong in this nation of ours. It was also the police. Having just graduated from the police academy, I was hired by the city of Hartford. I didn’t know what to expect once I hit the streets – but I did know one thing, something I’d learned years earlier. Being a Marine in Vietnam was not the same as being a Marine at Parris Island. As I hit the streets as a rookie cop, my real education began.
