The story begins with the sudden disappearance of boy and his father who were last seen in camping site near a Texas lake. The shocking incidence of children with opium overdosing comes as surprise to residents of Mount Pleasant centered in the picturesque Hill Country. Immigrants settled in this fervent countryside of the Texas frontier. Police find new clues that lends fears that the worst has happened. In a noble move, the wife begins her search, which entails an unexpected turn into an underworld of miscreants who seek to undermine the fabric of the American family. The criminal goal -- gain a control of bio warfare that uses the opium poppy seed as a novel “formula” to addict Western enemies. The family finds unexpected allies against the outlaws whose sinister venture is to harvest the poppies in the backwoods of “The Hill Country”. At the end, “nature’s own cure” is discovered and land owners lead “The Torch” to reclaim their homeland. Will they discover where the poppies grow in “Flanders Fields?”
About the Author
Carole S Wagner was raised in New Orleans and Texas. She was a medical and science reporter for thirty years and retired to become a novelist.
