INT. NBC BROADCAST STUDIO - DAY (1965)
Archival footage of a MAN appears onscreen. J. Robert
Oppenheimer gives a speech to a televised broadcast.

OPPENHEIMER

We knew the world would not be the
same.
A long beat.

OPPENHEIMER (CONT’D)
A few people laughed, a few people
cried, most people were silent.

Oppenheimer struggles with his words. It’s ominous. He’s
fighting to hold back tears.

OPPENHEIMER (CONT’D)
I remembered the line from the
Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita.
Vishnu is trying to persuade the
Prince that he should do his duty,
and to impress him, takes on his
multi-armed form and says, “Now, I
am become Death, the destroyer of
worlds.” I suppose we all thought
that one way or another.

CUT TO BLACK.

EXT. HEAVEN - DAY (DREAM) (IMAX)
A YOUNG WOMAN wakes up in a field of wheat. She graciously
touches the grain with her hand as she hears the voices of
laughter and joy. The young woman sees a MAN standing in
front of her. He looks right at her. Fear is in his eyes.

MARK (V.O.)
Wake up, Charlie.
(beat)
Wake up.

She starts to hear the TICKING of a CLOCK. It grows LOUDER,
until...

INT. CHARLIE’S BEDROOM - DAY (PRESENT)
CHARLIE (21), with dark brown hair, wakes with a cry. She
breathes heavily as she looks out her window. It’s a
beautiful sunny day. Struggling to get out of bed, she looks
tired and beaten from life.
