After the first week on the water, or according to Karl's carefully planned trip, seven twenty-four hour periods, the first sign of any concerns regarding the weather began to come into play. He'd noticed the increased wave size, and darker clouds rolling in over the eastern horizon. Karl would tell his wife, "a sailor's worst enemy is the calendar." He referred to a sailor's commitment to be at a certain place, at a certain time seemed to make the weather a secondary issue which, more times than he or history could recall, would send them into the depths of the seas. "We need to think about where we're heading, and start preparing to weather this storm, honey." Mary knew what he meant and began lowering the mainsail and leaving only the jib which would come down and store quickly should the need arise. "You know, dearest...this will be our first squall on this baby!" She paused with a smile, "Hell, everything's a first lately it seems."

About the Book
Christened The Omega Mystic, she is a beautiful sailboat setting off into the ocean waters off Taiwan in 1979. From his experience on the boat, Parker Stone has many memories from his days at sea, based so much on his personal interactions with the fifty-one-foot-long, fifteen-foot-deep, and fifteen-foot-wide ocean-going beauty. Parker’s story tells of the characters who come into contact with The Omega Mystic over decades and their different life-changing stories. Those lives are profoundly affected as the sailboat maneuvered through both time and space, between the past and present, across vast oceans and the places in between, before finally coming to rest in the now. Between ocean pirates’ savagery, a United States Naval rescue, and the appearance of a Panamanian president, the adventures herein are diverse. Eventually the mystery of The Omega Mystic and her special influence on those who’ve loved and respected her is revealed. Her story skips through time and space, never linear, just like the uneven, rolling movements of the sea.
About the Author
I am the author of “Ozzi’s Boys” which is an action-packed fiction and “Hartford City...A Novel”, both published by Mill City Press. “Hartford City…A Novel” received a high recommendation from the National Book Critics Circle Award in 2024. Currently, I am presenting my newest manuscript to Archway Publishing, Project 874332: The Omega Mystic Mystery. — G.S. Youngling grew up as a military brat and was fortunate enough to have absolutely wonderful parents who made each move an adventure. Living in Germany and France between the ages of 4 and 9 years old as a baby-boomer, he was introduced to both the languages and cultures of post-WWII Europe. He then returned back to the US living in Limestone, Maine on the then, US Air Force Base. While living there, adventure became a daily occurrence by simply walking outside of his front door into what was to become the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge. Later returning to the Washington, DC area in Falls Church, Virginia, Mr. Youngling completed his educational years remaining in that region after earning a Bachelor of Science in Law Enforcement Administration and a Master of Arts in Sociology / Cultural Anthropology from George Mason University. He joined the CIA as a trained lock & safe technician and a few years later, a member of the Fairfax County Police Department which became his career as he progressed through the ranks from patrol to detective. Except on long-term assignments overseas with the US Government after his decorated retirement from the police department, he contracted with the Department of Justice in 1994 as the Deputy Director of the Haitian National Police Training Center, Port Au Prince, Haiti. G.S. Youngling became part of the security team leadership for the 1996 Atlanta Committee for the Olympic Games. Between 2008 and 2011, he was fully embed into the US Army as a Senior Advisor serving throughout Iraq [OIF & OND] with the Department of Defense. The Northern Neck / Middle-Peninsula region of Virginia remained his home for another decade. He eventually moved across country to the Desert Southwest; specifically, Tucson, Arizona where he remains today as a US Forest Service volunteer. G.S. Youngling likes to take-off on solo trips around the country, predominantly to National Forests, Parks & Monuments with his small camper-trailer and/or tent several times a year. He enjoys writing fictional stories about topics and experiences that he personally understands. He also enjoys nature and the wilderness in all her forms and spends much of his time “out-there” mostly solo hiking and camping as opportunities present themselves. He is passionate about nature, wildlife and its conservation - as well as being involved in wildlife reintroduction projects; ie. the endangered Mexican Gray Wolf, the Bighorn Sheep and Mountain Lions. He loves this life and this great place we call North America.
